Taj Indian Cuisine; More Than Delicious Food
Taj Indian Cuisine has been a pillar in Ottawa for over 30 years. The heart is in their food and the care for the community. It is a family run business, making everything from scratch and adjusting dishes to their clients’ wants and needs. All ingredients are fresh and they continuously monitor reviews to ensure food quality. They make special meals for dietary restrictions, offering vegan and gluten free options.
Taj is more than just a restaurant. The owner and chef, Indu, has such a desire to share her knowledge of food; they’ve created an IGTV series ‘Indu's Kitchen’. They also support the community when they can through donations and supporting Mealshare, while surviving on ‘God’s good humour’. If you select curbside pick-up, $5 from your order will be donated to the Ottawa Food Bank. They have not laid off a single employee during the current pandemic. Truly, the love of food and people always comes first.
Taj Indian was the first take-out that my household ordered after Covid-19 distancing began in Ottawa. At the end of March 2020 many businesses were closed, and it was confusing as to where and how we would be able to get dinner from a restaurant. Ordering Taj was easy, as was delivery, and they helped to make our first quarantine date-night a special one. They’ve been doing very well adapting with the current times and adjusting their business model.
I typically order the same dishes when I get Indian food; Vegetable Samosas, Garlic Naan, Butter Chicken, and a side of rice. Taj never disappoints, it is always quality. I can be picky with how I prefer things cooked, and do not have to worry with Taj. The flavour and texture of the meal is always tasty. I tried Paneer Pakoras for the first time and they were delicious! I recommend dipping them in the Butter Chicken sauce. I chose Vegetable Biryani rice as our rice side, and it was packed with flavour. I ate an entire bowl of leftovers the following day.
I want to thank Taj Indian for not only another delicious meal at home, but for their kindness and positive spirit. If you ever get to speak with Priya, Indu’s daughter, consider yourself lucky. She speaks of her mother’s drive and spirit, and in addition to her own full-time job, and being a mother herself, she does the marketing for her family’s restaurant. We spoke of our love for Ottawa, and truly the city is lucky to have this family business as a part of its culture.
While they are still not offering dine-ins, it has never been easier to order Taj Indian! Find them on the delivery apps Ubereats, Skip the Dishes and Door Dash. Call them to order, or order online directly from their website. If you order online you will get 5% off for customer appreciation. First time ordering Taj? That’s an additional 5% off your full order. They are also still using Love Local Delivery, for free delivery if you are within 10KM of the restaurant.
