Meow That’s Hot is a fruit based hot sauce brand made here in Ottawa. All hot sauce names are a fun play on words related to cats, with a focus on flavour first. With spice ratings from very mild to high heat, try Fire Kitty for a mild flavour or Calico Catastrophe for their hottest yet.  In addition to hot sauce, they have their own kitchen and bar on Bank Street offering a rotating menu of comfort food.

The newest hot sauce in the city of Ottawa, Peppered Penguin offers Sunday deliveries in the West end, and Monday delivery for the East end. An online store is coming soon, for now you can order via Instagram messages and pay via email transfer. Choose from a variety of fun flavours including Peach Jerk, Piña Colada, Blueberry Heat, Roasted Jalapeño and Bonnet Pineapple. They also have pepper infused honey, ‘Hardcore Honey’.

They process their vegetables in their commercial food processing facility, also on site. You can find nutritional information, ingredients and flavour descriptions online. Spice level is rated out of 10, with the Gordz Pure Chocolate sauce being super-hot at a 10.

What started as simply adding home grown peppers to meals at home, turned into a local hot sauce business, here in Ottawa. They continue to grow their own hot peppers, as well as purchase some from local farmers, creating hot sauces with heat levels ranging from 1-5. You can place an order online, or find Mr. Pat himself at multiple Famers Markets in Ottawa.
